I began
painting and drawing many years ago, but it wasn’t until I moved to Malta that
I started some serious art classes. I have been privately taught by Harry Alden
and Eman Grima and more recently, periodically attended Jason Lu’s academic and
portrait classes.
Oil and
pastels are my preferred medium and I will paint a picture of anything that
attracts me. ‘Borderlines’ is my first exhibition and I have included a cross
section of some of the pictures I have painted over the last few years. I
prefer ‘interesting’ faces to the classically beautiful, because I believe they
have more depth for the artist to capture, and therefore more for the viewer to
think about and enjoy.
I have
recently begun to experiment with abstracts, which lend themselves ideally to a
large canvas. These are painted in acrylics, so a new medium as well as a
different style. I find the vibrancy of acrylic colours particularly exciting,
and I feel there is a lot here still to explore.
