Membership

The General Workers’ Union is a general union and membership is open to all workers irrespective of trade, skill or profession. As such, the GWU represents the interests of employees from all sectors of the Maltese economy. Its main objective is to actively protect the workers’ rights.
 
Membership can be obtained either by contacting the workplace representatives i.e. shop stewards, collectors, union activists or by applying directly to the Membership Office at the GWU Headquarters in South Street, Valletta, or by completing the online form which is to be accompanied by a cheque or postal order in the amount of 4.65 euros payable to the GWU. Payment of membershiop fees can be done also through a standing order with the local commercial banks.
 
The membership fee is 77 euro cents a week, which is equivalent to 40 euros annually.
 
GWU members will be incentivised for attracting new members to the GWU folds. Any GWU member will benefit from 50% of the entry fee for each and every member he/she enrolls.
